Cape Town - If you’re thinking of becoming Douw Steyn’s neighbour, then these points of interest will be worth jotting down.

... And now, for what you've been waiting for:

1. Gym bunnies will have their work cut out for them with the intriguing outdoor facility that winds its way up the estate and which is designed to work every muscle in the body. And you might even look like these Virgin Active instructors in time.

2. Health fanatics who enjoy the finer side of life can enjoy the facilities at The Club, but they might spend more time in the changing room than anywhere else.

3. Steyn City is a horse rider’s paradise for those who like their quaint gallops in the veld. They have an equestrian centre and 810ha of land to ride on.

4. Loadsheddingphobia patients will be encouraged to move here as they will be immune to Eskom’s power cuts, because they have installed two bulk gas storage farms and promote the use of solar power for all homes.

5. Gamers who like fast and furious internet speeds won’t get to see much action outdoors, as the estate has a world class Fibre-to-the-Home network that is light years ahead of standard copper cable offerings. And load shedding won’t stop you either.

6. Fierce dogs be warned. There may be no fences around your property, but the tech team have come up with a cunning plan. A dog collar linked to your home’s invisible perimeter fence will know when you’re out of your comfort zone. Expect a nasty shock.

7. This is not a golf estate. Repeat. This is not a golf estate. Oh yes, but it does have one of the country’s best Nicklaus designed golf courses.

8. If you’re living in a low-income area, I’d probably think of relocating to Diepsloot. Then perhaps you can have access to the Steyn City Skills Centre, where up to 40 people a month learn skills and where job opportunities at the lifestyle resort will be opening up like wildfire.

9. Art lovers will be in for a treat with sculptures and murals installed in parks and even under roads, where pedestrian paths submerge to avoid the traffic.

Listen to an interview with Charles Gotthard (who designed the above Hidden Giant), South Africa’s only architectural ceramist, who trains unskilled labourers from the low-income settlements that border Steyn City:

10. Finally, the estate is perfectly set up for Ed Harris to shoot the real-life version of the Truman Show, as it will have schools for Truman’s childhood, a commercial district for his adult life and a retirement village for his final years. And there is no ocean for his final escape scene. OK, maybe they won’t do that.
