A Fin24 user ran into trouble with Sars after working abroad for a South African company. He writes:

I was informed by Sars that I am being investigated for not paying my taxes while working in another African country for a South African company.

I have submitted all the relevant documents as requested by Sars, but they are questioning the validity of the documents.

A Sars spokesperson looked into the matter and responds:

The taxpayer’s objection is now in the formal system where a decision will be made on whether it is granted or not. A decision should be made next week.

I am advised that the delay was as a result of the fact that the taxpayer did not follow all the correct steps in dealing with the dispute.

While we understand that people are often anxious about getting the process underway, it is crucial for a speedy resolution that correct documentation is provided, on time, from the outset.

Incorrect or late submissions cause major problems and even more so when this happens several times in the same case.
