A Fin24 user wants to buy shares. He writes:

I want to buy shares, but I don't know where to start. I was thinking of buying the Top-40 bucket.

Brett Birkenstock, a director of Overberg Asset Management, responds:

It is very hard to give feedback without knowing one's personal circumstances, exposures and requirements.

When looking at gaining exposure to shares, one must always have a balanced and diversified portfolio. Having a look at the Top-40, we are currently seeing more value in certain counters than we have for the past few years.

Instead of buying a unit trust or fund, an affordable option that gains exposure to the Top-40, is by using a tracker such as the Satrix Top-40 Tracker ETF.
