A Fin24 user has lost track of his investments. He writes:
For the past eight years I've invested a substantial amount every month in unit trusts and exchange-traded funds.
It all went very well, but the last two years I've been working in Africa and due to work pressure lost touch with what's actually happening.
I think I need some professional help to manage my investments from here on.
Kavita Patel, a portfolio manager at Sasfin Securities, responds:
Managing investments is a full-time job. When one invests in an index it generally provides an investor exposure to certain areas of the market.
For example:
RESI: Resource board
INDI: Industrial companies
FINI: Financial players
Satrix40: Blue chip businesses
Our investment philosophy is to actively invest in companies which we believe will outperform.
For a client, we would create a bespoke investment portfolio, crafting a basket in line with their capital growth and income requirements.
We adopt a high conviction approach, keeping our investment portfolios to no more than 15 stocks.
Currently our investment universe includes local and offshore quality, blue chip equities backed by a solid balance sheet and management and businesses actively expanding into new markets.
