Johannesburg - An anonymous South African has bought what could be the most expensive bottle of whisky in the country, it was reported on Wednesday.
An anonymous buyer from Johannesburg apparently paid R230 000 for one of the three bottles of the Balvenie Fifty single malt whisky, The Star reported.
The new owner was expected to receive the bottle next week.
Only three bottles of the Balvenie Fifty were imported out of a total of 88 released globally in September.
The report said the second bottle was open and drunk at a retail price of R8 000 a tot on Tuesday.
The third bottle would go to Durban, Cape Town and then Johannesburg as part of the Whisky Live Festival.
"Someone obviously had the money to spare," Balvenie brand ambassador to SA Jonathan Miles was quoted as saying.
