Cape Town - Discover and AA Insurance provide the best insurance for motorists, according to a comparison analysis on customer reports filed on the popular consumer website hellopeter.com.
For the third year running, Carinfo.co.za, a website that offers information about the car industry, including reviews and free online car insurance quotes, collected information on the views of ordinary people based on the service they received.
The research looked at the total number of reports the car insurance companies received over the past 12 months.
The 22 companies in the comparision analysis were then divided into two groups. Those with more than 500 reports were labelled the 'bigger' companies, while those with less than 500 reports were called the 'smaller' companies.
They were then ranked on a point system by looking at complaints and compliments based on the following 5 categories:
- Feedback/response,
- Repairs/servicing,
- Billing/accounts,
- Call centre and
- Breach of contract
Discovery came top of the list in the ‘big’ company category, followed by Outsurance and MiWay.
AA Insurance came out tops among the ‘small’ companies, followed by Momentum and Alexander Forbes and Mutual & Federal in joint third place.
"We are happy to see that our annual research, although not scientific, has become a main source of information for car insurance consumers, and in addition, that it is positively influencing the insurance companies to provide good customer service," a co-founder of Carinfo told Fin24.
"We hope that the regulator will soon find more accurate and transparent methods through which consumers can get their information."
