New York - Wall Street stocks opened higher on Tuesday, following gains in Europe one day after global markets scored deep losses in the opening trading session of 2016.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 17 177.98, up 29.04 points (0.17%).
The broad-based S&P 500 rose 6.26 (0.31%) to 2 018.92, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index gained 15.33 (0.31%) to 4 918.42.
Global stocks fell sharply on Monday following a seven percent plunge in Chinese markets. On Tuesday, Chinese stocks finished down 0.3% following a volatile session as the People's Bank of China pumped 130 billion yuan ($20bn) into the money market.
