Tokyo stocks gain on ebbing Syria fears

Tokyo - Tokyo stocks rose moderately on Friday, extending rallies in New York on receding fears over potential US-led military strikes in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index gained 0.55% to 21 778.74 while the broader Topix index was up 0.63% at 1 729.36.
