Hong Kong stocks edged up on Thursday on lingering hopes China and the United States will eventually reach an agreement to avert an all-out trade war.
The Hang Seng Index rose 0.26% to close at 27 477.67.
But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.06% to 2 729.24, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, lost 0.22% to 1 420.02.
