Johannesburg - Bonds came under a bit of pressure at noon on Wednesday as a weaker rand weighed‚ amid a quiet trading day.
At 11:55 the benchmark R186 was bid at 7.385% and offered at 7.355% from 7.365% at the previous close. The R157 was bid at 5.490% and offered at 5.470% from 5.490% at its previous close‚ and the R207 was bid at 6.390% and offered at 6.360% from 6.380% at its previous close.
“Bonds are holding up fairly well‚ but due to a weaker currency‚ we are not seeing any real support‚” a local trader said.
At 12:02 the rand was quoted at R9.2530 to the greenback‚ from R9.2324 in late trade on Tuesday.
Local markets were close on Friday and Monday for the long Easter weekend.
The National Treasury said on Wednesday it will auction R1bn of R213 bonds‚ R750m of R209 bonds and R600 million of R2048 bonds on April 9.
