Johannesburg - Youth entrepreneurial excellence will be celebrated at the inaugural Maverick Awards in June 2014.
The Maverick Awards, hosted by Under 35 Mavericks - a youth owned enterprise development consultancy - will be launched to coincide with the country’s annual Youth Month.
Strategic partners include Brand South Africa and the Wits Business School’s Centre for Entrepreneurship.
It is intended that these young entrepreneurs will go on to make valuable contributions to the South African economy.
Under 35 Mavericks wants to roll out programmes to assist young entrepreneurs with market access, creativity, innovation, business growth strategy, marketing for growth in depressed economies, leadership for entrepreneurs, investor readiness as well as value asset creation.
The Maverick Awards will honour the sterling efforts as well as pioneering spirit of the most successful and innovative young entrepreneurs in South Africa.
“The Maverick Awards seek to carve out a space for young entrepreneurs to be the ‘wind’ that drives the sails of our job creation and economic growth endeavours," said Bokang Seritsane, founder and chief Maverick at Under 35 Mavericks.
"In a country where a significant proportion of the young population is without employment or sustainable economic opportunity, it is imperative to acknowledge youth success and unleash new role models to inspire numerous other young South Africans to be the creators of their own destinies.”
The theme of the awards is The Innovative Maverick.
Innovation has become the blueprint to sustainable entrepreneurial success, handsomely rewarding those that embrace it by affording them creative disruption ability, market access, competitiveness, growth and ultimately grand success.
It is for this reason that the Maverick Awards are looking to acknowledge young entrepreneurs across all industries, who display future oriented, solutions driven, innovative methods, strategies, business models and technologies as their mainstay to success.
This must be along with sustainable turn-over, increasing market share, growth, employment creation and service excellence.
Nominations are open to all young entrepreneurs between the ages of 18-35, who operate their businesses within the borders of South Africa.
Their business must have been in operation for at least three years, turning over a minimum of R1m in revenue per annum.
Nominations close on Friday March 28. For more information visit www.under35mavericks.com/awards or follow @under35maverick on Twitter or its Facebook Page: Under 35 Mavericks.
Winners are in line for prizes worth R1m, including business growth, support and development opportunities.
