A husband and wife team, both Fin24 users, have turned their passion into a promising business. The husband writes:

My wife and I are so passionate about pig husbandry that while waiting for funding, we have started a small-scale piggery in our backyard.

Things are looking good, and I must say we are loving every step of it together with the kids. I also need to mention that we are both fully employed.

I am writing this letter in the hope that you could help us in obtaining any kind of funding there is out there.

Running a piggery is very expensive due to food costs, among other things.

We have been applying to all different kinds of sectors and funders, to no avail.

The problem that frustrates us is whenever we do a follow-up, we are always told “send more documents”, since the party in question doesn't seem to have them on the system.

Sometimes we are told “we are still working on it”. I wish somebody out there can let us know what's missing, because every time we do a presentation, we are told our business plan is very impressive.

So what is the problem going forward?

We seem to be drowning in debt as the pigs are increasing in numbers, thus we seeking any form of help we can get for food and a bigger structure.

Your help in this regard will really be appreciated.

Business development consultant Anton Ressel responds:

You can visit www.investmentincentives.co.za to get a comprehensive list of all possible sources of finance and funding. However, you state that things are going well and the pigs are growing and multiplying - so why not start selling some to generate your own income?

In terms of ensuring your funding applications actually make it through the respective processes, always get the full name, position and contact details of your point of contact - unless you hold people personally accountable, you will continue to experience such poor service.
