Green events: Baby steps better than none

A Fin24 user running a green events business in Australia gives his 2c worth on a local user’s query. Greg Howell, owner of Climate Wave Enterprises writes:

In reply to How can I start a green events business?, the Fin24 expert is correct with his reply and the most poignant comment was that the sustainable event management industry is in its infancy and growth potential is enormous.

But to start a business in this industry there needs to be a green supply chain to back up your services and here in Australia that chain is limited.

I have had my business for 5 years and have only been able to convince a small number of event organisers to think outside the square. And even then only in a minor capacity.

In these economic times it seems that the cost factor overrides sensibilities and the fact that sustainable events are the responsible way to go.

In some instances, sustainable event management can cost more than standard services – but it doesn’t have to, depending on what components of the event the company wants to green. To start with, companies may just want to address a couple of high profile areas of their event. Baby steps are better than no steps.

Sustainable event management is a new, creative events management system that transforms events economically and environmentally and raise a company’s social standing in line with community expectations.

And when you look at the impact an event has on the environment – power usage and enormous waste generated by most events – many companies should look for green alternatives. And with the right management it won’t leave such an impact.

The Fin24 user must remember that research is imperative.

All the very best! Sustainable events are and will be the way for the future.
