Cape Town - Fin24 blogger Terrence Stoker has some wise words for struggling and would-be entrepreneurs.

Stoker pulls no punches. He writes: "Although the small business sector plays an increasingly pivotal role in the South African economy, starting a business has never been as daunting as it is now. Larger corporations are growing rapidly, muscling smaller businesses out of the picture.

"For any smaller enterprise to survive in the current economic climate takes hard work, determination and constant inspiration."

He gives tips to inspire, motivate and just provide jolly good advice from South Africans who have made the grade.

For instance, well-known businessman and billionaire Elon Musk says simply: “Work like hell… If other people are putting in 40 hour work weeks and you’re putting in 100 hour work weeks, then even if you’re doing the same thing you know that….you will achieve in 4 months what it takes them a year to achieve.”

Says Stoker: "By committing to your dream, following the rules and working hard, any small business owner can become a worthy contender in the South African market. Success is out there if you are willing to reach for it."
