Cape Town – Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has directed National Treasury to undertake a forensic investigation into the Tegeta report, his office said on Friday.
The report refers to coal contracts between Tegeta Exploration and Resources - owned by the Guptas and President Jacob Zuma's son Duduzane - and Eskom.
He also confirmed that a report on Tegeta he sent to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) in June was the final report.
This follows a letter by Gigaba to Scopa chair Themba Godi dated July22, in which Gigaba sought to withdraw the report. He said it was not the final report, which he said would be submitted after July 30 or after “Treasury has finalised it”.
However, he said on Friday that the original report sent to Scopa still stands.
“Treasury has reviewed the enforceability of the report and the report sent to Scopa still stands,” Treasury said.
Furthermore, Gigaba said he instructed Treasury “to undertake a forensic investigation into the Tegeta report”.
He said Treasury director-general Dondo Mogajane had “signed off for the forensic investigation on the 26th of July 2017”.
Gigaba said that governance and accountability at State Owned Enterprises remained a priority.
