Google search trends for the past 24 hours indicate that South Africans are impatient to know the results of Wednesday's election, the search engine said in a statement issued mid-afternoon on Thursday.

The top SA election related question searched on Google over the period was people eager to know who won the election, followed by how many parties took part in the election, how many votes for a seat in Parliament, and when the election results will be available.

Wanting to know who the president of SA is and which party is leading the votes were also among the top-10 most frequently asked questions.

EFF leader Julius Malema was the top searched candidate in SA over the past 24 hours, followed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the DA's Mmusi Maimane, president of the African Transformation Movement Vuyo Zungula and Hlaudi Motsoeneng (leader of African Content Movement).

The top 10 searches for candidates saw the Good party's Patricia de Lille in 6th, followed by the IFP's Mangosuthu Buthelezi, president of the National Freedom Party Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, the UDM's Bantu Holomisa and Black First Land First leader Andile Mngxitama.

"What does ANC stand for?" was the top question about the party searched for in SA over the past 24 hours.

"Why did Malema leave the ANC?" was the second most searched for question about the ANC over the same period. Many people also wanted to know from Google what the ANC has done for SA, when the party was formed and where to buy ANC clothing.

Last but not least, the 10th most asked question about the ANC was "why should I vote for ANC?"

The ANC was the top searched for party over the past 24 hours, followed by the EFF, DA, Black First Land First, ACDP, Freedom Front Plus, Good, IFP, Congress of the People and African Transformation Movement.
