Ramaphosa meets with Eskom bosses ahead of State of the Nation Address

President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday met with members of the Eskom board in Cape Town.

A statement from the Presidency said Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe and Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan were also in attendance at the meeting at Genadendal Residence.

Ramaphosa called on the ministers to establish alignment across government on the actions "to be undertaken to stabilise the energy utility in light of its financial and operational challenges".

The Eskom board, meanwhile, presented a report on the implementation of its nine-point plan to turn the debt-laden power utility around.

According to the statement, the president is expected to announce further measures to support Eskom’s efforts at recovery and financial and operational sustainability. Ramaphosa will deliver the State of the Nation Address on Thursday.

Also on Tuesday the North Gauteng High Court ruled that Gupta-linked advisory company Trillian must pay back R595m to the power utility.
