Cape Town – The National Development Plan (NDP) is a living document which can be considered consistently to improve the lives of South Africans, said President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He was answering a question posed by EFF MP Floyd Shivambu at Parliament on Wednesday. Shivambu asked Ramaphosa to be clear about what he stood for, given that the resolutions of the ANC’s elective conference contradict the NDP.

“What we stand for is what will advance the interests of SA,” Ramaphosa responded.

“The NDP is a living document, not a static document,” he explained.

“It is there to be improved, sharpened and used as an instrument to improve lives of people.”

Ramaphosa invited Shivambu to make contributions to the economic chapter of the NDP, as have other stakeholders, these being labour federation the Congress of South African Trade Unions and the South African Communist Party.

“We invite you to join the process of looking a the [economic] chapter of the NDP to see how it can be improved.”

Ramaphosa said that Shivambu was a person full of ideas.

The president has considered Shivambu’s proposal of a State-Owned Company Coordinating Council, to provide strategic direction to SOEs. He announced this during this answers to the state of the nation debate in February.
