Fikile Mbalula, who has previously served as both Police Minister and Sports and Recreation Minister, was trending on Twitter on Wednesday evening shortly after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he would be in the driving seat as Minister of Transport.
In his new role, Mbalula will be responsible for overseeing road safety, civil aviation, maritime transport and rail transport. He replaces former minister of transport Blade Nzimande. Over the years, Mbalula has also courted controversy over some of his remarks on Twitter.
Here is a compilation of some of the best Twitter reactions to the newly elected Transport Minister:
Our generous Minister of Transport; Cde Mbaks has implemented the amnesty twitter bill on his account. So those whom were ever charged and blocked can kindly submit for an unblocking amnesty. ????#GrowSouthAfricaTogether #TwitterAmnesty #FikileMbalula
