Cape Town — The National Assembly for the second day in a row failed to pass the division of revenue bill as there was no quorum.
Members of the Democratic Alliance and Economic Freedom Fighters left the National Assembly chamber in droves just before voting ensued.
Altogether 193 members voted in favour of the bill, while five voted against it.
On Tuesday there were 192 “yes” votes, while five voted against it.
There are 400 seats in the National Assembly, and to reach a quorum there must be 50% plus one member present. The 193 “yes” votes once again fell short of the required 201.
The division of revenue bill will have to be read a third time in the National Assembly to be passed.
The bill, if signed into law serves to make provision for changes in the allocations to provinces and local governments in the current financial year.
