Brown PA axed after Gupta report

Johannesburg - Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has fired her controversial personal assistant Kim Davids after reports linked her to the Gupta family.

Brown asked Davids to step down on Wednesday morning following allegations related to the email leak. A joint #GuptaLeaks investigation by News24, amaBhungane and Scorpio reported that "a Gupta web was spun around" Brown and raised serious questions about whether Davids had been compromised.

The reports showed that the Guptas flew Davids to a meeting in Dubai in December 2015, and that she stayed at the now infamous Oberio hotel.

“This past week I have been confronted by allegations against Davids. In the interest of fairness I asked Davids to respond to these allegations," Brown said.

“I was satisfied with her responses but I felt that the continuous allegations against her could compromise the legitimacy of my office."

She said Davids' axing was not an expression of her guilt. "However, it is important that my office is above reproach."
