Cape Town - Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has declared that she has never done business with the Guptas or visited the family at their homes.
“I have no private business interests, I have never done business with the Guptas and I’ve never visited them at their homes,” Brown said in parliament on Wednesday.
She was responding to a follow-up question from EFF MP Floyd Shivambu, asking her if she was aware of the fact that the politically-connected Gupta family had undue influence on state-owned enterprises.
In another supplementary question, Brown was asked if the Guptas had approached her to appoint any of their business associates to board positions.
Brown replied that the question was an insult. “Appointments in my department go through a very carefully constructive programme. We advertise all positions and they are subjected to legal and governance structures of my department.”
She said the right people with the right skills are appointed to positions.
