The Veterinary Authority of Lesotho has reported three anthrax outbreaks to the World Health Organisation for Animal Health, after 24 cattle died of the bacteria-born disease.
In a statement, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said the first case was recorded on May 12.
Consumers have been asked to ensure that they purchase meat from an abattoir that is registered in terms of the Meat Safety Act, avoid any carcasses of animals that have died suddenly and only slaughter animals for own consumption when there are no signs of disease.
