Another day of Stage 4 load shedding on Sunday

Eskom said late on Saturday night that another day of Stage 4 load shedding would be implemented on Sunday.

In a statement, the power utility said load shedding would shift from Stage 4 to Stage 2 from 23:00 on Saturday evening up until 08:00 on Sunday morning. It will then move to Stage 4 from 08:00 to 23:00 on Sunday.

It also confirmed that the latest round of load shedding was as a result of the recent cyclone in Mozambique.

"Unfortunately, even with the implementation of Stage 4 load shedding today, Eskom experienced a further decline in water reserves, which was used to supplement generation capacity. The management of the diesel and water resources is essential to ensure that the impact of the potential stage of load shedding in the week can be reduced.

"Eskom is currently implementing Stage 4 load shedding due to the loss of capacity, which included imports from Mozambique. At this stage, it appears unlikely that the imports from Mozambique will be restored in the next few days, which we can now confirm was affected by the cyclone," it said, adding that its maintenance teams were hard at work to return units to the system.

Eskom further apologised for the inconvenience during "this difficult period".
