South Africa's manufacturing production grew by 1.3% in August 2018 compared with August 2017, Stats SA announced on Thursday.
On a month-on-month basis between July and August manufacturing production remained almost changed, showing a slight increase of 0.1%.
The largest contributors to the year-on-year increase were in the subsections of food and beverages - which grew by 3.3% over August 2017, and of basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery - which grew by 2,1%.
The production volume of electrical machinery showed a 9% decrease, while that of radios, televisions and communication
apparatuses and professional equipment showed a decline of 9.7%.
