Zuma in Tanzania for SADC summit

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has arrived in Tanzania ahead of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Extraordinary Summit, the presidency said on Friday.

Zuma and International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane arrived in Dar es Salaam and would take part in the summit on Friday and Saturday, spokesperson Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

"Extraordinary SADC Summits are called to consider urgent and pressing peace and security matters that threaten the essence of regional co-operation and integration," he said.

Maharaj said issues to be considered at the summit include the crisis in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the situations in Madagascar and Zimbabwe.

"South Africa will be expected to report on the facilitation process in the Republic of Zimbabwe, whilst the chair of SADC will report to the summit on the mediation process in Madagascar," he said.
