"Seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales increased by 1.7% in September 2014 compared with August 2014," Stats SA said.
This followed month-on-month changes of four percent in August 2014 and 4.7% in July 2014.
Seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales decreased by 0.4% in the third quarter of this year compared with the previous quarter.
Regarding sales at current prices (nominal terms) for September 2014, wholesale trade sales increased by 12.7% compared with September 2013.
The major contributors to this increase were dealers in solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (18.1% and contributing 3.7 percentage points), "other" household goods except precious stones (16.9% and 1.8 percentage points), and machinery, equipment and supplies (9.7% and 1.5 percentage points).
Wholesale trade sales increased by 6.9% in the third quarter of this year compared with the third quarter of 2013.
The major contributors to this increase were dealers in solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (12% and 2.6 percentage points), food, beverages and tobacco (8.5% and 1.3 percentage points), and "other" household goods except precious stones (12.7% and 1.3 percentage points).
