Johannesburg - An ANC lekgotla resolved that a presidential task team should be set up to focus on the economy, secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Monday.
"The lekgotla acknowledged the impact of the global financial crisis on the performance of the global economy and the decline in the GDP growth," Mantashe told reporters in Johannesburg.
"The sluggish performance of the economy in job creation and the low levels of private sector investment were a source of major concern hence the proposed presidential task team."
The task team would focus on various sectors which included the mining sector.
Mantashe said the ANC adopted the resolution for the task team on a "principle level" at its three-day lekgotla held near Pretoria at the weekend.
He said mandate for the task team would be discussed at the upcoming Cabinet lekgotla.
