Johannesburg - Eskom says the power system remains vulnerable, meaning any extra load or faults in the system may necessitate the need to implement load shedding.
The power utility said that the risk of load shedding was, however, expected to be low to medium until schools re-opened next week, which would add further strain and increase the risk of load shedding.
Eskom called on all South Africans to pull together over the next few months and use electricity sparingly by continuing to "Living Lightly" during the summer months. It said less was more this summer and homeowners and businesses could do so with four steps:
- Switching off geysers and pool pumps;
- Switching off non-essential lights;
- Using air-conditioners efficiently by keeping the room temperature at 23°C and
- Responding to alerts on the television each evening.
