Johannesburg - South Africa will have two new universities in two years, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande said on Thursday.

"The plan is to have the universities by 2014," he said at a Black Business Council summit in Midrand.

They would be built in Mpumalanga and the Northern Cape.

President Jacob Zuma told the meeting earlier the sites for the two universities were being identified and sod-turning could take place soon.

Great. Now how do you expect South Africans to pass matric?

Education is Key to the survival of this country. Too long have we waited for these new Universities, but it comes with a great relief that there is some progress. I agree with Lee Bromley! We need to improve education from the bottom up and grow our Country. Education is a seed that needs to be planted, nurtured, and over time, blossom. We cannot just have two new higher education institutions with a lack of students to fill them and gain the most out of them. And after how long are these being built even? I can't remember the last time a person said, "We have built a new University!". Let's not stop this! Let's build more! Let's educate everyone so that this country does not dissolve further into the darkness that is illiteracy.
