Public works 'under administration'

Johannesburg - The public works department is "technically under administration", Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi told parliament on Tuesday.

"So, technically speaking we are already under administration because we are calling for help from different departments to work with us until we are able to walk on our own," he told the portfolio committee on public works, according to SABC radio news.

Nxesi was briefing parliament on the remedial actions his department was taking, after it received a disclaimer from the auditor general for the 2010/11 financial year.

This is the worst possible audit opinion, and means the AG could not get enough information to form an opinion on the state of the department's finances.
