Prasa employee suspended on bribery charge

Johannesburg - A Prasa area manager accused of soliciting a bribe from a service provider has been suspended, the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) said on Monday.

"Prasa has launched its own internal investigation regarding the matter, and the employee has since been placed on suspension," spokesperson Moffet Mofokeng said in a statement.

The suspension came into effect after the employee's arrest on Thursday.

The man appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on Friday, and the matter was postponed to January 17.

The Hawks said the 43-year-old allegedly wanted R10 000 from a service provider who did not comply with tender processes.

Prasa welcomed the arrest.

"We wish to state unambiguously that Prasa is committed to clean governance and any employee who acts outside the permissible rules will be dealt with," said Mofokeng.

"Prasa has taken a firm stance regarding fraud and corruption, and any employee who is accused of corruption will have to face the might of the law," he said.
