Nehawu proud to swell parly ranks

Johannesburg - The National Education Health & Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) on Sunday expressed pride that a number of its members were taking up positions in the new sitting of Parliament.

"This growing corps of worker cadreship within the ANC underscores the progress of our swelling-the-ranks project," said Nehawu in a statement, following its special national congress this week in Boksburg.

"We are proud of the fact that these cadres that we rightfully claim as products of our own have earned the confidence of the ANC and indeed of the broader masses of our people."

The Nehawu members who have left for national parliament positions are former general secretary Fikile Majola, former second deputy president Thozama Mantashe and former national treasurer Pulani Mogotsi.

Former first deputy president Joe Mpisi has joined the Gauteng legislature.

The union also announced its newly elected leadership: president Mzwandile Makwayiba, first deputy president Michael Shingange, second deputy Nyameka Macangca, national treasurer Kgomotsho Makuphola, general secretary Bereng Soke and deputy secretary Zola Saphetha.
