Johannesburg - National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members at Group Five in Durban are on strike over bonuses, the union said on Tuesday.
KwaZulu-Natal regional co-ordinator Bhekani Ngcobo said 450 members at the Durban harbour had been on strike since May 26, demanding a R10 000 project bonus.
They were also wanted to be able to knock off at 14:00 on Saturdays and insisted on representation by a full-time shop steward at the company.
"Our members are going to fight hard on the payment of the project bonus and we believe that Group Five can afford it," said Ngcobo.
"This is a big Transnet project that started in 2011. The workers want a project bonus because in the previous projects such as the world cup stadiums they were paid incentives."
He said when the world cup stadiums were built, incentives were paid based on target milestones.
"As to how this R10 000 bonus will be calculated remains a discussion between the union and the company."
He said the workers wanted to end work at 14:00 instead of 17:00 on Saturdays to enable them to have enough rest.
