Mantashe warns Gauteng ANC on e-tolls

2014-10-19 10:52

Johannesburg - ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has lashed out at the Gauteng ANC, warning they must not use the upcoming national general council (NGC) as a "scarecrow" to threaten the party on issues, the City Press reported on Sunday.

"If you have an issue, you don't raise it publicly and threaten the ANC," Mantashe was quoted as saying.

"You don't use the NGC as a scarecrow. The purpose of the NGC is to assess the implementation of party conference resolutions."

The NGC is due to start on June 26 next year.

Mantashe was responding to the ANC Gauteng's opposition to e-tolling.

He said the focus on e-tolls was a narrow debate, and that Gauteng wanted to create a smart city region that would transform the province into a world-class hub. This meant upgrading infrastructure.

The Gauteng ANC branch wanted e-tolling to be reviewed and in July, Gauteng premier David Makhura established a panel to examine the system's socio-economic impact.

On September 25, President Jacob Zuma signed into law the Transport Laws and Related Matters Amendment Bill, giving the go-ahead for e-tolling in Gauteng.

The e-toll system started operating on December 3 after several court challenges to halt the project.

Democracy ANC style. Time for them to realise that just because they pass resolutions at conferences doesn't mean it's what we the people want, need or will tolerate.

  • Antony John - 2014-10-19 11:03

Just make sure you use your very efficient Post Office Mr Mantashe to send the statements for your ridiculous e-tolls.

      Made-In SA - 2014-10-19 14:01

E-trolls are dead.RIP E-trolls.ETC[Toll Collections] has laid off its staff. There is now nobody working on collections and from now on e-trolls payments are completely voluntary. Those that still fund the corrupt ZANC pocket lining troll system ,ZANC thank you. I bet you guys still paying feel like milk cows every time you pass under those gantries

      Konstabel Koekemoer - 2014-10-20 10:48

Is anyone still paying at all besides government and big company fleets? Cannot imagine that any private motorist would still be so foolish to donate money to the e-toll scam.

  • Hennie Cloete - 2014-10-19 11:03

Perhaps only a few individuals in government personally benefiting from e-tolls?

  • Lucas Mafenuka - 2014-10-19 11:03

mantashe must be smoking something & it kills him dearly, a sober minded leader cannot say what hes saying infact fighting gauteng anc in public is another thing to prove that hes smoking

      WG Morgan - 2014-10-19 15:15

Gauteng ANC will hive-off as a local party.

  • Johan Nothnagel - 2014-10-19 11:07

Wants to transform Gauteng in a world class Hub ?......... Tell me another joke please !!!! The ANC and its 62% must pay e-tols - they voted for it.....

      Xavier7034 - 2014-10-19 11:56

Gauteng was only 53% ANC last election - they WILL lose it in the next election - THAT is 100% for sure! .

      Made-In SA - 2014-10-19 14:04

      @Xavier.ZANC got 53%,with Panty's help that is.

      Orige Oumatjie - 2014-10-20 09:27

And the old SACP Mantashe just slams the anc Gauteng to under that 52% with his dictator attitude.

  • Nhlanhla Gezani Leonard Baloyi - 2014-10-19 11:11

Bye bye Gauteng, ANC you're kissing it and saying goodbye. Welcome EFF or DA.

      lacrimosewolf - 2014-10-19 12:55

Ja, talking up "world class city, world class hub" whilst everything breaks. Water, electricity, PikitUp, roads, traffic lights etc. One can only marvel at the level of delusion.

      WG Morgan - 2014-10-19 15:17

Viva DA! Take Gauteng by the balls, shake till there are no ANC lackeys left!

      Steven Adamson - 2014-10-20 07:12

The ANC is digging its own grave. Now we just need to drop Zuma into the pit.

      Konstabel Koekemoer - 2014-10-20 10:51

@ Emone, I agree with you, the national ANC leadership only sees Gauteng as the cash cow to fund their corruption and private projects in KZN.

  • Chris May - 2014-10-19 11:11

It certainly doesn't seem to be a narrow debate - rather a very broad one and most certainly public. Also, a smart city region would see to ablution facilities for all those travelling - whether close or far. But especially far. An update on plans for that would be good.

  • Themba Wa Ka Mfundzi - 2014-10-19 11:14

Mantashe close ur rat mouse.u don't pay e-toll

  • Walter White - 2014-10-19 11:15

World class hub??? With taxis racing the yellow lines & dropping off passengers on the M1??? Tell me another joke!!!

      Klaus Muller - 2014-10-19 17:33

Mantashe being vertically challenged means his measure of standard are rather short & narrow - see Cuba, Russia, North Korea

  • Drexlar Miutente - 2014-10-19 11:15

I think Mantashe the Prime Minister of SA has a huge stake at e-tolls, he has been the most vocal on pro-e-tolls. We will not pay for this pyramid scheme Mantsashe...F* Off!

      WG Morgan - 2014-10-19 15:18

Maybe Mantashe's pension is in eTolls?

  • mxolisi.budlela - 2014-10-19 11:15

    Clearly he doesn't have balls

      Xavier7034 - 2014-10-19 11:58

      He drinks Bells :-)

  • Jaco Ehlers - 2014-10-19 11:20, Mantashe and Zuma

  • Jurgen Hartmann - 2014-10-19 11:20

Pambili Mumbling Mantashe, you old imbizi, you don't pay etoll, the tax payer foots your bill bill mumbling mouth. You should be fighting with your buttock ass against etoll if you are on the side of the people.

  • Joseph Tettey - 2014-10-19 11:21

Gwede you are responsible for the chaotic situation in the party. There was respect and discipline in the organization till you brought faction fighting in the party. When you joined hands with Zuma,Malema and faction to disrespect Thabo Mbeki then the President what did you have in mind ? There is nothing happening in the ANC . Rather wait for your turn to leave and retire. The earlier the better.

  • Mark Smith - 2014-10-19 11:22

    A struggle within a struggle.

  • Basimane Molapi - 2014-10-19 11:22

    'n bok blêr..

  • Jimmy Mashabela - 2014-10-19 11:28

Mantashe mistakes himself for he declaring a war against Mashatile and Makhura now? This man think he is the alfa and omega of this country, now we know why Mbeki never liked these communists, they sucks.

      JL Joubert - 2014-10-19 11:45

Serious problems inside the party! Pity the work the good people out and keep the corrupt ones?

  • Joe Irwin - 2014-10-19 11:31

We complain about Zuma, but this man is just as corrupt. He pulls all the strings.

      Orige Oumatjie - 2014-10-20 09:36

Indeed the sacp has overtake the anc.

  • Wisto Matli - 2014-10-19 11:47

    Leave gauteng pls

  • Putco Lebepe - 2014-10-19 11:48

The biggest problem we have in the ANC is Mantashe. He is not in government but he wants to control government. The people in Gauteng say no to e-toll but Mantashe sees this as a sin committed against the ANC. Gwede Mantashe is bullying everyone in the ANC. He must be stopped.

  • Bertus Pretorius - 2014-10-19 11:49

Mantashe, the people are against this. The people you are supposedly representing, remember? Or has the constant corruption and thievery cloud your mind?

      Xavier7034 - 2014-10-19 12:07

he does not "represent" anybody - least of all the ANC - he is a card carrying Commie - he was not voted in by anybody except Zuma.....incidentally Zuma was also in the Communist fold early in his career, now his commie friends are getting payback....Blade Nzimande, Jeremy Cronin, Mac Maharaj, Ronnie Kasrils, and others we dare not mention....

      ivan.marsh.37 - 2014-10-19 16:34

Quite right Xavier. There is a disproportionate presence of communists in the ANC government and the chief commie M.. Is running the show. Cmon ANC reclaim you party and get rid of goat beard.

  • Brown Hair - 2014-10-19 11:53

We are not as stupid as we think. You could have knocked down houses through a suburb buying all the land along the way for what we paid for the upgrade of that existing road. YOU AND THE REST OF THE ANC ARE THIEVES. You have been caught out. Now you are acting like the little children that think if you deny it enough times it won't be the truth. You should be in prison.

  • Pogiso Mekgwe - 2014-10-19 11:58

GM as his best because he is not affected by etoll.

  • Wernher Friedrich - 2014-10-19 11:59

No wonder you are still in the african national corruption party, you steal like the rest. Today etolls, tomorrow we take the government down, just like happened in libia with ghadaffi who died like the rat he was.

  • Pogiso Mekgwe - 2014-10-19 12:02

This arrogance can be changed only if people can use their mind when they vote and leave anger aside.people must not vote for them even in 2016 because these etoll issue some of ANC heavyweights in gauteng also use it to grab top post so they can also benefit from corruption before its late. Its a strategy from LH.they think were are stupids idiots.

  • Adie Masana - 2014-10-19 12:04

Zuma and Gwede mantashe is eating out of the same plate. He is always threatening. People

  • Kholo Warren Jesus - 2014-10-19 12:04

mantashe again barking mad.e-tolling imploded from the beginning.

  • John Howard - 2014-10-19 12:05

You dickheads still have no idea about being a political party let alone one that supposed to be ruling. Totally different than being a communist movement hey, which you are.

  • NoAbsolutes - 2014-10-19 12:07

I think he means "don't threaten the benefiting cabal ....."

  • Pogiso Mekgwe - 2014-10-19 12:08

Thats He didnt attend their conference with his boss and they send their deputies, that shows there is a problem.

  • Adie Masana - 2014-10-19 12:08

I hope the people can vote with their heads and not their hearts. They vote for the big greedy idiots all the time.

  • Richard Nieckau - 2014-10-19 12:12

Mantashe: There are so many pressing issues, are you asking members to smile and wave at NGC?!? The purpose of have conferences and meetings is for member to come together on all front, you just don't want ANC internal politics televised for the MESS that it is. Your stance is called SUBVERSION.

  • Richard Nieckau - 2014-10-19 12:13

Using public channels to communicate your threats means you have already failed.

  • Freddie Jones - 2014-10-19 12:16

Democracy ANC style! It is simple; Do As You Are Told!

  • Calcium-hmb Nandza Baloyi - 2014-10-19 12:17

I've come to halt and conclusion to understand that the problem is not Zuma in the ANC..Gwede Mantsashe is the 1 who is ruining the ANC.

  • Richard Nieckau - 2014-10-19 12:19

Africans vote with anger and fear, no brain power used. Hence we are left with a government who's rise to power were generated on those principles of fear and anger.

  • Richard Nieckau - 2014-10-19 12:23

That's why we have cadres like Anthony Dada promoting hate mongering on public forums. Hate is a result of fear and anger - all evil in origin and will never bare anything positive from it.

  • Nathan Elston - 2014-10-19 12:25

He is warning them not to mess with his bribes

  • Steward Regenald De Bruin - 2014-10-19 12:28

All the trolls must be in hiding. Haven't seen one comment yet supporting Mantashe.

  • Adie Masana - 2014-10-19 12:30

How true Nathan. They top guys of the ANC is only fill their pockets. That's why they won't step down

  • Kay Booi - 2014-10-19 12:57

ANC has just lost another number of votes.

  • Seshike Samuel Mmoledi - 2014-10-19 13:17

I would like to challenge ANC General secretary on the issue of e tolls, because he is not an ordinary poor citizen in this country. For a single non business person, paying R270.00 a day just in and out Jhb is an insult to us citizens, so Gauteng provincial leadership and ANC leadership in Gauteng are 100 percent right reviewing those e toll for benefit of us poor ordinary citizens and not those living lavishly sitting in Lethuli house e toll paid for them with our taxes too. VIVA GAUTENG LEADERSHIP VIVAAA fight for us our leaders.

      mark.k.davidson - 2014-10-19 15:56

Mantashe doesn't pay e toll. He has state car. We pay for him.

  • Johan du Toit - 2014-10-19 13:22

Talk about not seeing the wood for the trees. What Mantashe says may be right but there is no doubt that the man in the street hates the e-toll no matter what party they belong to.

  • Choene Phadishi J Seanego - 2014-10-19 13:40

Johan, I do agree with u the thing is ,we the poor we wish this e tolls to scraped at all, we don't benefit anything out those tolls.

  • Joe Durandt - 2014-10-19 14:23

Hahahaha. Idiotic Gwede... blah blah blah blah!!! You sound like an old and tired chev enjin

  • Nelson Sibeko - 2014-10-19 14:47

Mantashe u can go to Hell..!

  • Phoenix Bluflame - 2014-10-19 15:03

Gwede the goat is a silent beneficiary bcos the one from nkadla has cut him a piece

  • Peter Mansfield - 2014-10-19 15:13

I did not know that Gauteng was doing that. Thanks, Gwede, for drawing my attention to it. Go Gauteng, go!

  • Malcolm James Patterson - 2014-10-19 15:17

Unfortunately swiss palm I can only give you 1 like instead of the million your comment deserves. Of course there is massive corruption here why else would these thieves be pushing so hard. It's obviously easier to get into the E toll cookie jar than it is into the fuel levy jar

  • ivan.marsh.37 - 2014-10-19 15:40

Come on true ANC supporters. Stand up against this communist that has hijacked your party and is running it for you.
