Cape Town - Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema says his party is going to form its own union to fight for the interests of the working class, City Press reported on Sunday.
He said the EFF was the only vanguard for the poor and working class.
This after the Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) agreed to call a truce with disgruntled union affiliates after ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa intervened to help prevent it from splitting.
“How can Irvin Jim and Zwelinzima Vavi listen to Ramaphosa, a billionaire, about how a union should conduct itself?" asked Malema.
"EFF is going to form its own union to fight for the working class.”
Cosatu spokesperson Patrick Craven said in a statement last week that Ramaphosa was heading an ANC task team to assist the labour union federation to resolve its internal problems.
The ANC will engage different unions affiliated to Cosatu to bring about peace.
Cosatu and the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), which is the biggest bloc in the labour grouping with 330 000 members, has been at loggerheads since Vavi was suspended as general secretary.
At a special national congress last year, Numsa resolved not to support the ANC in the May elections, who it accused of pursuing pro-business policies.
