Malema in Popcru firing line

Johannesburg - Expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema's attempts to destabilise the labour movement in the country is repulsive, Popcru said on Thursday.

"The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union is among many organisations which worked hard to ensure there are proper systems in place to peacefully govern the labour sector," it said in a statement.

"We will not stand by and watch all this momentous work being flushed down the drain by a power hungry reject.

"Popcru warns Mr Malema that not all people are fooled by his rhetoric and he will be exposed for the fraud he is."

It said the SA Police Service (Saps) should arrest him if he was found guilty or suspected of inciting violence and instability in the country.

"We are also aware of Malema's plot to address members of SAPS and we call upon our members not to entertain him," it said.

"All members are well informed about the channels available to them in case of disputes and must be rest assured Popcru will continue to fight their battles as we have done so for the past 22 years

Malema had addressed striking miners, urging them to go on work stoppages every month until their demands were met.

He also addressed disgruntled soldiers on Wednesday, causing the defence minister to accuse him of being a counter-revolutionary and trying to incite members of the SA National Defence Force against the state.

Trade union Solidarity has laid two charges of incitement to violence against Malema for allegedly provoking unrest among striking mine workers.
