Johannesburg - Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale's government
is being investigated for alleged fraud and corruption totalling millions of
rands, according to weekend media reports.
"The investigation should run its course and state agencies should be allowed to do their job," said Mathale's spokesperson Phuti Mosomane on Sunday.
He was reacting to a report in the Sunday Times, which
stated that the Anti-Corruption Task Team was investigating the claim from a
group of disgruntled businessmen.
The Forum of Limpopo Entrepreneurs also wanted Mathale to be
investigated amid claims that he influenced tenders in various provincial
department.
Secretary of the forum, Sivoko Mabunda, confirmed that
members of the forum had been already interviewed by the Hawks in relation to
the dossier.
Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela confirmed that allegations of fraud and corruption were being investigated.
"The case has to do with allegations of fraud and corruption, especially in the department of health and transport," Polela said.
