Johannesburg - A spokesperson for Sactwu says members at leather tanning companies will get a 7% pay rise next month.
Sactwu general secretary Andre Kriel said an agreement had been reached with the SA Tanning Employers' Association, concluding the year's round of negotiations.
"It [the agreement] will benefit about 3 800 employees in 36 tanning companies nationally... [with] a further 7% wage increase with effect from July 1 2014," Kriel said in a statement."In the event that inflation figures as at May 2014 exceed 8% or drop below 4%, the parties shall re-negotiate the wage increase applicable to the July 1 2014 component," he said.
Talks were mediated by the national bargaining council for the leather manufacturing industry and the agreement was signed in Port Elizabeth.
