Cape Town - A memorial service for the chief negotiator of the Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) has been scheduled for January 15 at Klipkerk, Mosa?ek Lifestyle Centre, in Roodepoort. Leon Pieter Grobler, who served the union movement for more than 30 years, died on Goodwill Day, aged 61.
He is survived by his wife Paula, three sons, three daughters and seven grandchildren.
A law graduate and expert in labour legislation, he started his working life as a state prosecutor and magistrate before joining the union movement. Known for his dedication to social justice and social cohesion, he served in the National Economic and Development Council’s labour market chamber from its inception in 1995. There he was regarded as a “generous and wise” participant in the council’s work.
Announcing the memorial service with sadness, the National Executive Committee and the secretariat of Fedusa saluted Leon Grobler as “a comrade, colleague and friend”.
The service is scheduled to start at 10:30.
