A small business owner says that the National Union of Metalworkers of SA has informants who tip off strikers of factories that are working. He writes:
We have been forced to shut down our plastic injection moulding plant due to intimidation of workers.
Large crowds of striking workers belonging to the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) have been passed our factory a few times and were all carrying sjamboks, knobkerries etc.
They have damaged property in our area and behave in a very threatening manner.
They have 'spotters' that inform the crowds of factories that are working. We have so far lost six shifts and our non-Numsa affiliated employees are suffering.
Further to our own plant, 90% of our customers are affected and will not accept deliveries so we are faced with diminished orders and possible short time next week too.
Our company and our industry at large have already reached a wage agreement under the separate 'plastics chamber' within the bargaining council, however we are severely affected by these violent and destructive so called strikes.
