Johannesburg - The Cosatu special national congress has been stuck for more than three hours on the issue of credentials, according to Popcru president Zizamele Cebekhulu.
The majority of the day had been spent on a debate around the credentials at the congress held in Midrand, Johannesburg.
The session was closed to the media for the first time. Unions loyal to expelled general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and the National Union of Metalworkers of SA, had tabled motions to have second deputy president Zingiswa Losi and new metalworkers union Limusa removed from the congress.
Delegates broke for lunch just after 15:00 and it was said that a vote on credentials was expected to take place afterwards.
Popcru president Zizamele Cebekhulu told reporters on the sidelines of the congress that the motion which would be handled after lunch was on whether delegates could vote on credentials.
"The issue on Zingiswa Losi and other people and other items are out, because they do not reside within the set items on the agenda.
"The issue that is now... is the issue of credentials and the congress is trying very hard to make sure we pass that item," he said.
Cebekhulu could not say how the vote would be conducted. It could be done through a secret vote.
