Durban - KwaZulu-Natal unveiled a R19.5m wine production project north of Durban on Thursday.
The co-operative governance department said the first harvest obtained from vineyards in the Mandeni and Maphumulo municipalities had seen 28 tons of grapes and 8 000 litres of wine produced.
The aim was an output of 25 tons per hectare and establishing a viable wine industry in the Illembe district municipality that would boost tourism.
Fifty jobs had been created and a wine processing facility had been built near the KwaZulu-Natal north coast town of Ballito.
