Cape Town - Measured in nominal terms (current prices), total income for the tourist accommodation industry increased by 3.7% in February 2015 compared with February 2014, official figures released on Monday showed.
Statistics SA said in a statement income from accommodation rose by 2.8% year-on-year (y/y) in February 2015, the result of a 6.2% drop in the number of stay unit nights sold and a 9.6% increase in the average income per stay unit night sold.
In February 2015, the types of accommodation that recorded the highest y/y growth rates in accommodation income were caravan parks and camping sites (7.5%) and hotels (5.1%).
The main contributor to February 2015's 2.8% y/y rise in accommodation income was hotels (contributing 3.3 percentage points).
Income from accommodation lifted by 1.0% in the three months ended February 2015 compared with the three months ended February 2014. The main contributor to this was hotels (2.7% and contributing 1.7 percentage points).
Income from accommodation excludes restaurant and bar sales and ‘other’ income.
