Hawks probe Malema for fraud

Johannesburg - An investigation into alleged fraud and corruption by ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has started, the Hawks said on Sunday.

"We are looking into the (Ratanang family) trust, and whatever any avenues our investigation brings us to,"Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela said.

"We will not be taking cues from the media in our investigation. We have our own ways of finding stuff out."

He said the Hawks made the decision to initiate the investigation over a week ago.

"There is a lot that we have to go through, so it is difficult for us to say when the investigation would be completed. We are not committing to a specific date yet."

He said the unit would take action against Malema based on the results of the investigation.

This follows the African National Congress' announcement on Friday of dates for disciplinary hearings for both Malema and party spokesperson Floyd Shivambu.

Malema recently said the league would send a team to Botswana to consolidate local opposition parties and help bring about regime change. It believed the government there was "in full co-operation with imperialists" and undermining the "African agenda".

The ANC publicly rebuked the league. The league in turn said it did not believe it was in the wrong or going against ANC policy. It expressed disappointment at being publicly rebuked before the matter had been internally discussed.

The hearings would take place on August 30 and 31.

i Have faith that the investigation is in the right handz,The truth shall be told..I admire most of Julius's thoughts on transformation and economic freedom..but corruption is one thing i do not support,if he is proven to be as corrupt as media claims..then i'll b very dissapointed..i wish him all the luck he may need.i trust that the media would not jeorpadize the Hawks efforts by interfering..

"We will not be taking cues from the media in our investigation. We have our own ways of finding stuff out." So then you will be taking cues directly from biscuit boy himself? I look forward to the findings.

my comment is,if the hawks find that what they are searching for is realy what they want,do u think the action gonna be taken to him,and the anc as well who's gonna step on malema's way and say we now strip u a membershiep card as as anc member, cause this thing is like that time where zuma was kicked out by mbeki as a member of parliament,he had lots of support from the nation,so how are they gonna be dealing with this,i dought guys that malema if the hard action is gonna be taken against him,but indeed the where thereis smoke the fire is there,so malema he just invite this things by himself,so he must face the fire and its a good example for the nation to see how the politics is all about on this matter,we all waiting to see what's gonna happen!!!thumbs up for u guys do ur job!!!
