Govt gears up for NDP talks

Pretoria - The Cabinet lekgotla will discuss the economy, progress made since 2009, and the National Development Plan (NDP), Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane said on Tuesday.

"The agenda, mainly, is for us to look at the economic outlook of the country, and internationally to see what further steps we need to take to ensure we sustain economic growth," Chabane told reporters on the sidelines of the lekgotla in Pretoria.

"We will also look at the progress we are making with regards to the priorities we identified since 2009."

Cabinet is holding its three-day lekgotla at the Presidential Guest House.

Chabane said ministers, deputy ministers, and President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe would look in detail at the progress Cabinet had made following the state-of-the-nation address.

Despite discussing the country's economic outlook, the lekgotla would not discuss the economic task team proposed by the African National Congress at its own lekgotla last month.

He said Zuma would deal with that issue.

Cabinet would also not discuss the imminent anniversary of the August 16 Marikana shootings.
