Berlin - The majority of Germans want Greece to stay in the eurozone, but they do not approve of any debt write-off for the economically troubled country, a poll published on Sunday found.
Sixty-two percent of the people surveyed by market researchers Emnid for Sunday's edition of the Bild newspaper said they did not want Greece to leave the euro. Twenty-six percent said Greece should reinstate the drachma as its currency.
Asked whether Greece should be allowed to write off some of its €315bn debt, 68% said no, and 21% said yes.
The German government has spoken out against any relaxation of Greece's debt burden.
