Berlin - German retail sales posted their biggest gain in two years in January as higher wages, economic optimism and low oil prices boosted domestic demand in Europe's biggest economy.
Retail sales jumped by a more-than-forecast 2.9% in January compared with a 0.6% increase in December. The January rise was the biggest increase since January 2013.
Analysts had expected a monthly rise in January of just 0.4%.
