Johannesburg - The Gautrain project was long overdue, provincial authorities said on Wednesday.
"For too long, people of Gauteng have been requesting to have a public transport service which is on par with other developing countries," roads and transport MEC Ishmael Vadi said at the launch of a book on the history of the Gautrain.
He said finally a safe and reliable public transport service had been established.
Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane described the project as a journey Gauteng was proud to reflect on.
She said credit had to go to everyone who contributed to the project.
