Former Nafcoc vice-president dies

Johannesburg - Tom Boya, the former vice-president of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc) has died, the organisation said on Saturday.

"He was a well-respected community and business leader who played a significant role in black business...and in the reorganisation of Nafcoc," the group's president Joe Hlongwane said in a statement.

"...We wish to express (our) deepest condolences to the Boya family...(he was) one of the most prolific leaders in black business,"

Boya - who was also the president of the SA Leisure and Tourism Association - died on Friday at the age of 62 after a long illness.

Hlongwane said Boya's activism in the black business sector dated back to the early 80s where he played an active role in the chamber movement in Limpopo as a civic leader.

Boya was also the former mayor of Daveyton, chairman of the Northern Province Community College, chairperson of the Daveyton Adult Centre and president of the Polokwane Rugby Club.

The African National Congress Youth League in Limpopo sent its condolences to the Boya family.

It said Boya was "golden-hearted" and passionate about the wellbeing of society.

Provincial spokesperson Klaas Nono Mabunda said: "His life is well lived and surely the angels are happy to have him in their midst to help watch over us."
